Coconut Shampoo

23 Jun

ACF827FThere is a shampoo my dad used to wash my hair with when I was younger that I think is absolutely perfect for locks in addition to the SISTERS OF ISIS SHAMPOO because its light weight and is not loaded with chemicals.

The product is called Coconut Shampoo by Cornrows and Co. based out of Washington D.C.

I vouch for this product because I have used it numerous times before and it kept my hair healthy and glowing and I also vouch for its creator–Pamela Ferrell!

This shampoo will leave your head feeling refreshed although it is not tingly like the signature SISTERS OF ISIS scalp rejuvenator but it will do the job as an alternative and something new.

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise

23 Jun

Peace lovelies,

Many people warn against washing locks frequently because people who have kinky hair tend to need the oils that are in their hair and washing it so often strips it down thus damaging the hair but I BEG TO DIFFER!

I currently reside in New York City… the dirtiest city in the U.S. in my opinion. I am always walking and always in the subway  and I don’t wear hats or scarves often so my hair is rarely protected from all of the dirt and grime that is blown onto it.

In addition to the city being dirty–  I do hardcore intensive workouts i.e. spin class and yoga that sweat my hair out at least three times a week!

Not only does the dirt and grime creep me out– but when I sweat with all this hair the grit that clings to my hair gets on my face and breakouts occur… this is a huge NO NO NO for me so I must keep my hair washed often and regularly contrary to some folks who believe you shouldn’t wash locks but every two weeks or so.

I MUST wash my hair at least  TWICE a week or it gets extremely gooky and funky.

To remedy the strip down factor I do hot oil shea butter treatments to replenish the oil glands and I take my omega oil supplements regularly.

How to rid locks of Lint Pt. II

23 Jun

images-1In response to the overwhelming inquiries about lint in locks I have been doing some research and I discovered an eHow article on how to delint locks. The author of the article suggested to:

1)  use a lint brush in your hair periodically

2) never place goopy hair products in your hair always use light products that can easily wash out with water. You can find some of these products at

3) invest in a good silk scarf and silk pillowcase 4) use tweezers to get the lint you can’t see out of your locks, especially if you have tiny locks.

I have used this method before and it actually works but on the flip side sometimes it can break the lock if you pluck too hard.

Removing lint can be addictive and it becomes a problem when you want to remove every single particle of dirt from your locks but you have to realize that this is nearly impossible, so take it one step at a time my loves.

I hope this helps out with the infamous lint problem.

Kelis Rockin’ the So Called Riri cut BACK in the DAY!

18 Jun

kelis-hair-4Hello lovelies,

Today I would like to share a photo of beautiful Kelis with you. This is the style that bloggers are claiming Riri started…NOT!

I am really becoming a bit tired of Ms. Rihanna she needs to go sit down somewhere and make music. She was spotted in Carol’s Daughter yesterday.

I was walking down the street and I saw a huge crowd of people outside and police officers… I was like oh lord someone got SHOT!

So I asked a man standing in the crowd what was going on and he said Rihanna was inside of Carol’s Daughter…

I admit I did wait for like five minutes but then I decided that my time was too precious to wait on Ms. Riri to come outside so I walked into the middle of the street around the crowd and headed to my destination. Nothing is new under the sun! Ah well…

Krinkly Locks

11 Jun

An easy way to get a different look without curling your hair or using the loc loopz or spike curlers is to lightly spray it with lotta body or Taliah Waajid’s Crinkles and Curls and braid it in tiny brads all over all the way to the ends.

Leave the style for 24 hours and unbraid the next day for beautiful krinkly locks. I have attached a before and after photo for you to get a visual of what I am talking about.

Thank you for reading!  This is one of my birthday pics… I just recently turned 25 and I am loving it. Everyone at my party kept commenting on how my hair was different than they have seen it and how they love the look. Try it yourself and see!

Lint Blues

11 Jun

1056172205_d9ee71db4e_bToday I would like to share something with you that I recently discovered. I have been wondering for a long time how to keep the lint out of my locks especially in a city such as NY. I have purchased a silk scarf and I try to keep it on all night even though I sleep like a wild animal.

But I have still been finding bits and pieces of white filaments in my hair in the mornings. I have figured out what it is! I have a feather pad underneath my sheets and I figured out that it distributes these small feathers into my bed and my sheets through its tiny holes. I was livid when I found this out because I have been using this pad for a long time! Once I found out, I immediately discarded it and I am on to the next thing… perhaps I will get a foam pad instead.

You don’t want to compromise your comfortable sleep for beautiful looking hair but something has got to give. Another product I recently threw out was my hot six oil.. I don’t like the smell of it because after awhile it smells sagey and I am more of a sweet smelling person so I just decided to get some olive oil and place a drop or two of my favorite fragrance oils inside such as strawberry or gardenia and that works better than a product that was manufactured in the store.

Hope I shed some light on this lint problem… I will be looking into more ways to shield locks from lint as we continue to travel on this journey.
